I still think that my own and Alexius' contributions to the plot are a little disjointed.
I'm all in favour of introducing the Red Thorn brotherhood here, but I think it would be
good to develop this a little more.
Here's the mission write-up, if anyone needs a reference point:-

The 'Captain', as I've mentioned in a recent thread and possibly referred to him as the
'Governor' (which I prefer) has already taken over the Tower that the people of the old
culture used in order to deliver offerings to the spirits.
The Red Thorn brotherhood should be pretty much all but defunct at this time and their
temple more or less abandoned, leaving the 'occupying' force represented by the Governor to
eliminate any progress in establishing a rapport with this culture in the name of Imperial
Unity. They do this by making everything very Hammerite. Therefore, the old traditions of
the Archonians are replaced by the relic of the Ferrum Miurus, the Machine of Wishes.
The Governor hates the swamp and, although the Archonians are very clean-living people, he
accuses them of disgusting habits when in fact they are merely acknowledging their humility.
NB - Humility is supposed to be a theme here. The Governor is stuck up and bigoted because
he cannot accept that he too is full of impurities.
He responds (pettily) by torturing the Archonians, thus rendering the whole ritual of the
Tower invalid. Consequently, the spirits belonging to the old culture freeze up the Temple
and are constantly seeking to break the Machine of Wishes. There has to be a very
disgruntled Ferrum Miurus technician on hand to deal with this problem and maybe it was the
last technician who alerted the Cardinal to the problem in the first place.
The ritual itself is designed to help people to work towards having their dreams come true.
The Red Thorn brotherhood added the extra doctrine that this cannot take place unless it
fits in with the Master Builder's plan, meaning that not everybody can have everything they
want. The Red Thorn Brotherhood came about to settle matters peacefully. Obviously, by
violence, it renders any such idea impossible.
At the centre of the swamp, which you might understand as representing all the negative and
undealt-with problems/sins/crimes that people have faced, is a well of souls. Even Yahwol
is afraid of this legendary object, for there lie the souls of the dead whose lives passed
without meaning and in total emptiness - exactly the sort of the thing that the surrounding
culture / rituals were designed to remedy.
Amongst other things, they seek to smash the Machine of Wishes as a form of Divine
Retribution. I don't think there should be much to do with seeing the future here, except
perhaps in the form of the 'Hymn of St. Ragnathus' whereby a potential hero returns to
account for the crime of allowing the Bronze Legion to die at the hands of the Burning
Legion many years ago and keeping this secret in order to protect the misdemeanors of
people who are 'of the blood'. However, I suppose there's no real reason why the Machine
of Wishes might not expose a little of the future to its users in passing.
The wights represent the force of the past and the will of the unrestful dead coming to
influence the future.

Anyway, I wrote a poem a couple of days that could be used in the Temple:-

"Art thou drowning in tears? Art thou sane?
or hast the love frozen in thy veins?
Is that which thou mourn the shape of the demon that possesseth thee?

Doth thy ire burn bright?
Art thou loathsome tonight?
Doth the fire of the candle emit much less warmth than thou canst handle?

Art thou vengeful or disarmed?
Invigorated or charmed?
Is't the sole transit to thy heart the ghost train that ne'er departs?

Doth thy belly ring with the sound,
of a hallowed underground?
And the labyrinth beneath, is't conquered by a trail of crumbling teeth?"

.....sort of meaning 'you only get from life what you put in'.
